Portrait assignment

In this exercise, we went to the greenhouse to take some portraits. I used my phone camera to take these shots of Bre. I used the grid feature on my phone to help me utilize the rule of thirds to compose these pictures. The natural lighting coming in from the windows was perfect for inside the greenhouse and the outside pictures didn’t have and awkward shadows. Overall I feel confident being able to take nice portraits.

My Journey

Hello, I am Matthew Jacobs and I’m almost done with my journey here at Central Michigan University. I started my time here way back in the fall of 2017 and it has been a long ride here, however I have learned plenty about myself. I am finally in my last semester at CMU after a few life changing events and a global pandemic, but one thing I can say is that I can do it. My passion is sports broadcasting and more specifically, play-by-play, and what I found out with time spent here at CMU is I’ve lived my dream and now it’s time to expand on what my dream is.

During my time as a student, I have also worked for CMU athletics, where I have worked with professionals to help me excel towards my goals. I have done play-by-play for every single one of Central Michigan division 1 sports except for football. Also, I have produced behind the scenes and have operated many different camera positions during my time with CMU Athletics. This opportunity has not only helped me realize my dream, it has given me a chance to live it and gives me a chance to excel inn a career in sports broadcasting.

While working in the field, I have gained a lot of experience with working with younger students and have became someone they can look up to, which is something that I never thought would happen. Somehow I became a leader, someone that is relied upon to put on a good broadcast. Whether it is behind or in front of the camera, I am someone that is used as an example of what hard work can become. My journey is somewhat of a long one, but it is a story of perseverance.
